MOSCOW, June 6. /TASS/. Germany’s authorities are seeking to exacerbate the situation and provoke confrontation with Russia, speaker of the Russian State Duma, or lower house of parliament, Vyacheslav Volodin said.
"Today, Germany’s policy-makers are creating conditions to escalate the situation and are provoking confrontation between our countries," he said, commenting on German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s recent remarks about the results of World War II.
At the same time, he stressed that Russia doesn’t wants such a confrontation. "But if it happens, we are ready," he added.
At a meeting with US President Donald Trump in the Oval Office earlier, Merz, in the context of the Ukrainian conflict, recalled about the anniversary of D-day, or the Normandy landing of allied forces in 1944, and the United Sates role in that operation. In reply, Trump noted that it was "not a great day" for Germany.
